The baseline from which all the zones (for example, the Exclusive Economic Zone) of Australia’s maritime jurisdiction are measured. The baseline is defined as the level of lowest astronomical tide, but straight baselines and bay or river closing lines may be drawn further out from the low-water mark to encompass areas such as the mouths of rivers, bays, ports, roadsteads and fringing reefs.
